Wednesday Walking Tutukaka Coast, Term 2, 2026

We resume weekly Wednesday morning walks on April 29, for a 10 week term.

Last term, thanks to a lovely big group of positive walkers, we mostly enjoyed weekly walks in light rain or shine, due to an unusually wet season. Regular walking in nature builds immunity during autumn, it is not so hot, the sun lower, warming and strengthening our bones, assisting wellness and wellbeing for winter.

Term 2, Ngahere/Autumn, we will enjoy the moana and its beaches, often just to ourselves after school holidays. The sand is very forgiving, perfect to feel the push off of our feet and sense the rhythm of our steps and diagonal action of our limbs and poles for some. On high tide mornings we will be in the ngahere, amongst the healthy lush rakau, and green grass, so healing after rain.

As the earth is well watered, you will need sturdy light hiking shoes with both good arch support and grippy soles. Regular fit safe walkers are encouraged to participate in both walking and social connection.

Wednesday Walking Tutukaka, Term 1, 2026

We resume weekly Wednesday morning walks on February 4, for a 9 week term.

Last year, we enjoyed a wonderful variety of walks, and we are a lovely group of positive walkers. Regular walking in nature is the best exercise for overall health and wellbeing, for vitality and longevity, activating all systems of the body.

Term 1, Raumati/Summer is a season of joy on the Tutukaka Coast, either at the moana amongst the beautiful sea birds here for the summer, or in the shade of the ngahere. So far, this summer we have had some rain for the gardens and water tanks and right now as I write, a wild cyclone, so we are staying fresh amidst the fire of summer.

Wednesday Walking, Tutukaka Coast, Term 4

We resume weekly Wednesday morning walks on October 8, this will be a 10 or 11 week term.

We enjoyed a wonderful variety of walks throughout Term 3, only missing one Wednesday due to the winter weather. A great group of walkers, new friendships have been formed and despite different walking levels, we all seem to fall in step, everyone looking out for each other. Some are brisk, some are mindful, some manage to be both and we all end up together at the end!

Term 4, Koanga/Spring is a magical season of new life on the Tutukaka Coast, either at the moana or in the ngahere, puawananga/clematis flower of the skies, continues to flower, the mana/birds are singing and swooping! Look out for the arrival of Pīpīwharauroa.  “Ka tangi te wharauroa, ko nga karere a Mahuru” meaning “If the shining cuckoo cries, it is the messenger of Spring”.
