Ohui, near Opoutere on the eastern side of Coromandel Peninsula is a gorgeous earthy venue, right near a stunning beach, wonderful wholesome sattvic food, above all it provides much needed ‘Time for The Self ‘. It is a Retreat venue for Ashram Yoga in Parnell.
A 3 day Silent Meditation was challenging for Robyn, being a ‘Doer’ mostly! I loved the quietness, the deep connection with myself, yet the nuturing company of others. I loved the mix of sessions – meditation, plenty of yoga asanas, yoga nidra, kirtan in the evenings – yes, we could chant and talk then!
The Meditation sessions brought 3 main components to my mind
- The physical body -the length and strength required in the mid Thoracic Spine to sit upright in Sukhasana, enhancing our posture, a weak point for some office workers! and – the opening of our hips and shoulders, our hearts, our minds.
- The breath – using Ajapa japa technique, linking a silent mantra with the breath, really feeling into the breath, our life force, the texture, the sound, the rate of the breath, enhancing our ability to be truely present with the breath. The deepening and lengthening of the breath, gave us deep inner strength.
- The stillness -not just around us but over time, deeply within, an incredible feeling of stillness from practise, focusing on a single point.
